Roundtable Discussion: “Casual Encounter and an Escape” (Alternative Art Week: “The Devil in Rojitohito”)
Performers: TARKY Toshima, Masayuki Yoshida, Tatsuya Mukozaka (Guest), Nike Tobita (Moderator)
The discussion ranges from the works of O,1,2nine and TARKY Toshima’s individual practice to FINAL FUNTASY: Me, the Dog, and Leaving the Impure Land, the final performance by Kyoto Roman Pop, led by Tatsuya Mukozaka, and the plays of the Masayukis, written and directed by Mukozaka. Theatre, sketch comedy, laughter, their social and antisocial connections, complaints, sharp criticism, and speaking from an author’s perspective all come into the discussion. Toshima and Mukozaka really go all out. And yet, somehow, by the time you finish reading, it has turned into a moving symposium. I was surprised.
(From the announcement by Nike Tobita below.)
The discussion will center on The Real O,1,2nine (2024), a comedy performance presented as a video work by O,1,2nine (TARKY Toshima + Masayuki Yoshida). The guest is Tatsuya Mukozaka, resident playwright for the Masayukis (Masayuki Yoshida and Masayuki Yano), a group launched in 2024 following the disbandment of Kyoto Roman Pop. The veil surrounding the mysterious TARKY Toshima and O,1,2nine may now be lifted, or perhaps it may not.
The main participating artists in Alternative Art Week, “The Devil in Rojitohito,” included Takehiro Kimura, qp, TARKY Toshima, Masayuki Yoshida, Kazuhiro Ishigami, Naoyoshi Hikosaka, Hiroyuki Oki, Sung Nam Han, Kimio Itozaki, Tomomi Nishimura, and others.
